April Recap

Thanks to Last.FM for all of the stats here.

For the month of April I had 2103 unique scrobbles, down 5% from the month before. That's an average of 70 scrobbles per day, played back to back it would be 5 days and 20 hours worth of music. There were 717 different artists on the list last month, averaging 2.93 scrobbles per artist. Top genres were "Rock", "Alternative Rock", and "Alternative". Kind of a bum month for that, huh? 10p-11p was the top time slot, with 9p-10p taking 2nd and 8a-9a taking 3rd. That's a lot of time spent driving to work, and a bunch detoxing after.

Top 10 Songs of April

10. REO Speedwagon - Time For Me To Fly
A holdover from last month, I'm not sure how long this'll last but REO has a habit of doing this from year to year.

9. Rammstein - Radio
New R+ means you'll be seeing a LOT of them in the coming months!

8. Kevin Max - Return to Singer
Kevin Max is the eternal - I will always love his voice.

7. Commodores - Night Shift
I'm not a huge fan of the Commodores, but I feel like it's intriguing that my favorite song from them is post-Lionel Richie.

6. Anberlin - Dance, Dance Christa Paffgen
Since I started doing Last.FM, Anberlin has made their way up to #3 of the artists I have played the most. For some reason, I was back to this song like it was the mid-2000s all over again.

5. The Benjamin Gate - How Long
Theme. You see it. You've heard it. You know it.

4. Mesh - The Last One Standing
Theme! These two ain't going anywhere.

3. Meat Loaf - Everything Louder Than Everything Else
"I Would Do Anything For Love" gets all the glitz and glam, but "Everything Louder..." is the true Bat Outta Hell jam.

T1. Paul Simon - Mother And Child Reunion
T1. VNV Nation - Only Satellites

Hah! A tie! Between the bomber of 2019 (VNV) and an out of nowhere challenger in Paul Simon. How curious indeed.

Top 10 Artists of April

10. Five Iron Frenzy
There's that ska kick again. I actually saw a satire site post an article about "listening to that one ska band and remembering all that regret" and I laughed. I still love this stuff, and most people I know who listened to it do too.

9. Assemblage 23
There's just too many good A23 songs that are relevant to my life.

8. Ryne Meadow
I did an album review for Ryne last month which included a phone interview. He was a genuinely interesting dude making music that definitely touches on a lot of dark places I have lived through.

7. Kevin Max
Maybe it wasn't a ska kick so much as a CCM kick? Nah. K-Max put out a new record recently, and it's as strange and intriguing as everything he's ever done. Worth a listen though!

6. AFI
I was at work putting away shipment when "Girls Not Grey" came on. I was immediately transported back in time and started dancing around. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed "Sing The Sorrow" as an album.

5. VNV Nation
Bumped from the top spot, but not terribly far away.

4. Apoptygma Berzerk
I finally got around to listening to some of Apop's older stuff, and of course it was as fantastic as I expected.

3. The Beatles
One of my new co-workers and I were talking about music we loved, and she dropped a bomb on me, saying that "older Beatles music is bad, I only like stuff from Sgt Peppers onward". I had to pull out some old jams to make my point that all Beatles is good Beatles.

2. Wolfsheim
I'm really sad that Wolfsheim isn't a band anymore, especially since they haven't been since I learned about them.

1. Anberlin
With Anberlin announcing they were going on a reunion tour, I started cobbling together dream setlists. Haha

Thanks Last.FM!
