June Recap

Yes, I am a month behind.

Thanks to Last.FM for all of the statistics

June featured 1930 unique scrobbles, down 7% from the previous month. 5 full days and 10 hours of music played... pretty much runs close to what we've been doing all year. 681 artists for an average of 2.83 per artist, quite a hike from the previous few months. Top genres: Rock, Alternative Rock, and Synthpop. 9p-10p was the most active timeslot - me driving home from work and such. 11a-12p, and 12a-1a were the next two, which of course the former is me driving to work. Haha.

Top 10 Songs of June

There were 7 different songs at #10... so, reaching into the hat...

10. De/Vision - Your Hands On My Skin
Electronica was heavy in the month of June, and usually that means De/Vision is somewhere lurking with bands like Solitary Experiments and Solar Fake, trying to climb past A23, VNV and Mesh.

9. The Broken Relics - Where The Creatures Roam
Falling from 1 to 9 in a month is no bad thing. It's always good to have a local jam kicking around the playlist.

8. Mesh - The Last One Standing
Ah, there's Mesh. The Last One Standing is honestly one of those songs that I cannot see myself getting tired of, years later. It's just too relevant of a jam, and too good musicially to ignore.

7. Curse of Cassandra - Bastet
Curse is finally back playing shows, which means you'll see their plays shoot up the next few months. It's always an exciting summer with Nicole and the gang.

6. CHROM - Memories
CHROM is the only surprise on this list for me.  Not that it isn't a solid song or anything, I just didn't realize I listened to it that many times. Electronica was more prevalent than I thought.

5. Toto - Stop Loving You
...on the other hand, here's the one classic rock song that snuck in this month. While the world continues to gawk in the revival of Africa, Toto still boasts an impressive back catalogue of hits.

4. Blutengel - You Walk Away
Still racking around at the top, and still just as intriguing to me as the rest of their songs are not. Who knows.

3. Cold - Shine
Here's a hint for upcoming months... you're gonna see Cold. Lots of Cold. Their newest single dropped in June, and there's really no turning back from there. It's better than I could have expected. Watch out.

2. VNV Nation - Only Satellites
1. Smith & Thell - Forgive Me Friend
There's a really good chance that these two songs fill end up at the top of the charts come December. Which will be number one? As I always say... stay tuned!

Top 10 Bands of June

10. Apoptygma Berzerk
Right where we left them last month. Innnteresting.

9. Mitch Hedberg
Haha. The random comedy album sneaks in there from time to time, doesn't it?

8. Mesh
After dropping out last month, Mesh is back in and kicking around renewed interest in songs other than The Last One Standing.

7. Assemblage 23
Death, taxes, A23. Tom Shear is such a wonderful dude, which makes his music even better.

6. Rammstein
The new record continues to carry steam, and now we're in that inbetween time where I'm jamming to multiple songs and wondering who will end up on the Countdown.

5. VNV Nation
This is as low as they've fallen all year.

4. Anberlin
I'm seeing Anberlin live in July, and so I've been jamming to their theoretical setlist on here.

3. Cold
I wouldn't call it "renewed" interest, but the new track definitely helped bolster their standing this month.

2. Slipknot
You know, there's a new Slipknot record coming in a few months as well. Could be interesting seeing the old guard plant their flags this year.

1. Curse of Cassandra
When the dog is away, the cats will play.

Thanks again, Last.FM
