Back on track. Thanks to Last.FM for all of the statistics!
July was a slow month for music listening. Only 1750 scrobbles, equally 4 days and 21 hours of music. 713 different artists, scrobbling 1390 unique tracks. The top genre, as always, was Rock, followed by Alternative Rock, Alternative, 80's, and Pop. Not exactly an inspiring group there, huh? My top two hours (by a long shot) were 12p-1p and 11a-12p, with 11p-12a taking third.
Top 10 Songs of July
10. The Broken Relics - Where The Creatures Roam
Still rolling strong a few months in, and not looking to slow down at any time. The entire EP is tremendous and I expect to see them in both the top song, album and artist charts ranked fairly high at years end.
9. J. Roddy Walston and the Business - The Wanting
This song came on while driving the other day and I realized it would actually sound perfect if The Broken Relics covered it. So then I just started jamming to it more and more. I'm not big on J Roddy, but it's quite the banger.
8. Fit For A King - When Everything Means Nothing
A late comer looking to make a run at the Countdown, despite the album dropping late last year. Who knows how these things work, but there's always one or two that happen like that.
7. Ashbury Heights - Spiders
On two different occasions in July, I was scrolling through playlists and thought to myself, heck, I just wanna hear Spiders. It's such a curious sonic dynamic that I don't think I can resist it once I start listening to it.
6. The Interrupters - Gave You Everything
King of an old third wave punky feeling band that I've really been enjoying lately - Gave You Everything came on at work the other day and now it's everywhere.
5. Cold - Without You
Single #2 from the upcoming Cold record is even better than the first. What's next??
4. Alvvays - In Undertow
The resurgence is on for Alvvays... I still haven't listening to another song off of this record, but I really don't need to at this point.
3. Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth
I told you 80s and Pop were heavy, didn't I? This one is irreplaceable, it just has to resurface from time to time. Kind of like Kim Carnes.
2. Smith & Thell - Forgive Me Friend
1. VNV Nation - Only Satellites
Remember what I said in June about these two being at the very top of the list come years end? Yeah. Still kicking ass and taking names.
Top 10 Bands of July
10. Apoptygma Berzerk
3 months in a row at the #10 spot. Who knows? They are great, and I wish they'd make some new music soon.
9. The Killer and the Star
With Cold putting out a new record, I had to revisit the old TKATS record. It doesn't hold up like I hoped it would, but it's still a worthwhile part of Scooter Ward's catalogue.
8. The Cure
Goes around, comes around this year. I find myself relating to Robert Smith's music more and more as time passes on.
7. VNV Nation
An exceptionally quiet month for Ronan and the boys, except for taking the #1 track spot.
6. Soundgarden
Soundgarden was propelled up the list by releasing a live disc they recorded on their last major tour back in 2014. It's a solid disc and a reminder of how great Chris was.
5. Rammstein
No stopping them right now. The new record is simply too good.
4. Curse of Cassandra
Not really a huge drop, but if they keep playing shows they're gonna stay near the top. That's really all I need.
3. Circle of Dust
Some days I wake up and say, man, I really want to listen to band X. That band was CoD in July, quite out of nowhere honestly.
2. Cold
If you think it's big now, wait until that new record drops. Holey moley.
1. Anberlin
Seeing Anberlin live again catapulted them back to where they belong - near the top and never ceasing.
Thanks again to Last.FM!
