The 2015 Jester One Music Top 20 Countdown - #6

#6 - Lamb of God - 512

Well, would you look at that? A familiar face at #6, Lamb of God landed here in 2012 with the crushing hit "King Me". Mark this as their second consecutive album to reach the countdown, and hopefully not the last. Unfortunately, the events of the past few years had many wondering if there would even be another LoG classic. Lead singer Randy Blythe was arrested in the Czech Republic and held in a Czech prison while awaiting trial on manslaughter chargers of which he was later acquitted. The events and emotional toll of that trial and prison stay led directly to the album "VII: Sturm und Drang". Songs like "Footprints", "Still Echoes", and "Embers" show emotional pains as well as emotional maturity, as Blythe grew through his trials. The album is as good as anything LoG has ever put out, reached #3 on the Billboard 200, and shows that no matter what you do, you cannot keep the American metal machine down.

"512" might be the most directly related of all the prison-themed songs. "512" was Blythe's cell number, and the song tells of his time spent in solitary confinement. It was the second song released from the album and I'll never forget how I was knocked off my seat the first time I heard it. The song opens with a blaring loud riff and a classic Blythe spoken word intro. After the high notes cease, the crushing double bass thunders through your eardrums. This song embodies everything LoG does well: crushing heavy riffs, pounding drums, and Blythe's signature growl. There's even a tasty solo in the middle to keep you rolling. There's no denying that this song deserves it's Grammy nomination, and I would count it among LoG's 5 best ever. The video features the band playing, and a story-line following the murder of a teenager whose body is found washed up from a creek.
