#13 - Passion Pit - Lifted Up (1985)
Passion Pit strikes again! Make it 3 solid albums in a row for the genius that is Michael Angelakos. "Take A Walk" just missed in 2011, but the band was not to be denied with their most recent release, "Kindred". The one know I had on Passion Pit in previous years was that the albums would have 3 or 4 really good singles and a bunch of electronic bubbly filler. Not this time. From the opening track til the end, this album is simply wonderful. The synths bounce, the bass drives, and Angelakos' peculiar voice ties it all together. Not too bad from a project that was initially just to impress a girlfriend. Other favorite tracks include "Until We Can't (Let's Go)", "Five Foot Ten (I)", and "Ten Feet Tall (II)".
"Lifted Up (1985)" tells the tale of a life that once was. A happiness that is never forgotten. A love lost, yet still burning. There is a simply secondary synth that sort of hops and bounces amongst the noise in the background, and the usual bass-line helps to push forward. I should probably point out that any song that references 1985 is also alright by me, since it was the year of my birth. The video has Angelakos trying to dodge a crowded mosh-pit scene while singing in strobe lights. This was the first song that really brought happiness into 2015, and one of the songs I was sure would land in the top 10. Not quite a "#1 maybe" qualifier, but a phenomenal song just the same.
