#19 - Destiny Potato - Take A Picture
I
have often found that there are two major flaws to most djent bands.
The first is that all the riffs seem to be copying off of each other,
and the second is that most of the vocalists are just terrible
screamers. When I heard there was a djent band with a female vocalist, I
figured it would just be another bad screamer. Enter Aleksandra
Djelmas. She can sing your face off. And throughout this album, you'll
find interesting riffs and odd little bits of instrumentation, including
accordions (?). I suppose we should expect the unexpected from the
first ever Serbian band to make the list. I mean, come on; the band is
called Destiny Potato.
There
are some solid songs on "LUN" ("Indifferent", "Lunatic", "Love Song"),
but the opening riff on "Take a Picture" is what really takes the cake.
The song verses make it very accessible and the chorus launches it into
another realm. It's a good blueprint for the album. Some may argue that
it's too poppy and not metal enough, but I feel like it blends different
sounds well. Also, the limited amount of screams is a welcomed addition
to a tired genre. I look forward to seeing this band following this
independent release with bigger and better things.
