#12 - Walk The Moon - Shut Up And Dance
Keeping with the Ohio trend, Walk The Moon (Cincinnati) are back for their second showing on the countdown. They surfaced in 2012 with the #3 song "Anna Sun" and have once again released a massive earworm that will surely garner insane amounts of airplay in 2015. In fact, the only reason that this song is at #12 and not higher is because it was only just released two months ago! The only time in countdown history that a song has risen so quickly so late was in 2010 when "Cameras" by Matt and Kim launched up to #5 in only 1 month of airplay.
I'm here to tell you folks - "Shut Up And Dance" is the real deal for Walk The Moon. The song blasts off with an obsessive riff and kicks right in to the sing-a-long chorus. The soaring guitars are matched with a pulsing bassline and an airy layer of synths that immediately lift the listener up. The song tells of love at first sight, found on the dance floor. The video has singer Nicholas Petricca finding his true love and being knocked out by her amazingness. Both the song and video are filled with so much fun and positive energy, it's almost impossible to ignore them. I cannot wait for this album to be released so I can get some more of this!
