#16 - Winds of Plague - Say Hello To The Undertaker
A
late 2013 release, "Resistance" by Winds of Plague served as an early
head-banger to get me through the ice cold winter months in early 2014.
As a bad that I hadn't really listened to before, I was pleasantly
surprised with WoP's mix of deathcore metal and symphonic elements.
There are also some solid guest vocalists including Vincent Bennett of
The Acacia Strain. Other standout tracks include "One Foot In The
Grave", "Time to Reap", and "No Man is My Master". It is definitely one
of my top 5 metal discs of the year.
As far as "Say
Hello..." goes, it kicks off with a great opening solo and has pounding
drums that lead it to it's crescendo chorus "Say hello to the
undertaker; your debts are now paid". But what sets this song apart from
the rest on this album (and any other song this year, for that matter)
is the crushing gang vocal of "I AM RELENTLESS!" The entire song keeps a
frantic pace going and continues to pummel until the last cymbal has
been smashed. The video features the band rocking out and (of course)
demonic lead singer Johnny Plague playing the role as undertaker,
leading a female heroin to the devil. It's a great workout track and a
great track to fly down the highway with. Ha...
